A wand is a magickal tool and as such must be charged and invested with intention by its user! Each magick wand is mildly blessed & enchanted shortly before being completed, and real magick is very subtle … and always in accord with Nature's laws.
A magkic wand is a tool to empower the user to manifest (magickally create) with greater power and focus, much like a hammer is a tool. A hammer will not build a house just because someone can swing it around. Building a house (or making magikc) will require the user to know how such a feat is done. Many think a wand is a "magikc amplifier", but it would be more technically correct to say that wands function as a "magick focuser". A wand focuses the magickal energy of its user, … not necessarily increasing the magick power, just making it more intense.
I am dedicated to working with the dryad spirits of the trees in creating magick wands. The ancient Celtic Druids employed wands all the way back to 500 BC. As a matter of fact, "Druid" actually means "man with the wisdom of the wood", We know from the Druids that wands made from the wood of certain trees would seem to be better suited to certain people depending on when they were born, and these woods also tell us something about the person. So, a wand made from the wood of your birth tree would usually be a good match for you. If your wand matches your birth wood or your physical or personal characteristics, it would seem that you had chosen the wand. But if the characteristics of the wood and the wand's magickal core are tailored to what kind of magick might be dominant in your future, then it seems the wand is picking you. We can see from this that it is a combination of both the wand picking the wizard, and vice versa. No matter how powerful the magickal core of a wand is, in the hand of someone non-magical (a muggle or a squib), the wand is just a useless stick. However, the very same wand in the hand of a Wizard can be a formidable force. So this would mean that the wand gets magickal energy from its user.
A Wizard must remember the incantation and proper wand movement, emotion, conviction and memories. Wands assist with this process by taking care of some of the focusing for the Wizard. There are, of course exceptions to these rules, and the different tree species favor different people. The final acceptance test is what is called ‘energy twiddling’. Using your strong hand, point the wand or stick into the palm of your receiving hand, and twiddle the wand tip at the center of your palm, about two inches away. There is a very sensitive ‘energy’ organ right in the center of your palm which transmits and receives energy, and if your wand works well, you will feel a tingling or tickling sensation coming from the wand tip.
I’m often asked how to use a wand. My reply is that there is no right or wrong way. While some leave theirs on the alter to be used only in ritual, others like to hang theirs in their home.
I have learned these things by reading them in books, listening to trees, interpreting the growth of vines, and by working directly with the god Mercury. It’s all good. Just remember the magickal powers of your wand are not as important as the magickal powers of YOU! It’s your wand. It’s your magick. It’s your life. So be the Wizard that you are and enjoy.
May Mercury bless and guide you, your wand, your words, your will and your way. May all your spells be good ones!
